2018 - 2019 PTO Officers

President – Chi-Chi Abando

Hi my name is Charito but you can call me Chi-Chi.  I am the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant at East Point Academy.  I will be the face you will see everyday when you enter the East Point Academy Elementary Campus.  I am a single parent to two wonderful children.  My son is in his senior year at the University of South Carolina studying computer science.  My daughter is a rising second grader at East Point Academy.  We’ve been part of the Panda family since Kindergarten.

I love all things crafty.  Family is the most important thing to me.  I love to travel and explore new places and cultures.  I love to cook and bake.  I have a servant heart and that is why I have chosen to lead this year’s PTO as president.  I am looking forward to an incredible year where we come together as a community of parents, students, teachers and staff working together for the greater good of our students and school.

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”  – Helen Keller

Vice President – Christina Phillips

I am a wife and the mother to two boys at East Point Academy who are in the 5th grade and in 5K.

I am a full-time commercial real estate manager who loves being involved and volunteering at her children’s schools. I am very organized and detail oriented. Planning and organizing are my absolute favorite things to do! I am someone who loves to help and give to others.

Secretary – Destra Capers

Hi, I’m Destra and I will serve as the Secretary for the PTO this year. I am married to Kenny and we have a 9 year old son. I currently work as a Transition Specialist for special education students; every day I can make a difference in someone’s life – is a good day!

My hobbies include traveling, thrifting, and decorating. This year will be great and I hope to meet you at the PTO events.

Treasurer – Jenn Shirey

Hi, I’m Jenn and I will be serving as the PTO Treasurer.  My daughter will be entering 2nd Grade at East Point where she started in kindergarten. I also have a two year old son who will be a future Panda.

I am a Paralegal with the law firm of Adams and Reese, where I have been employed for the past ten years.  My husband, Chris, is an Apparatus Operator with the Lexington County Fire Service.

My daughter plays softball with the Lexington County Girls Softball league, where I also volunteer as a coach.

Our family enjoys being together outdoors, camping, swimming and cheering on the Gamecocks!  I am excited for this opportunity to be more involved in our amazing school and provide continuing assistance to our teachers, parents and students. Go Pandas!

Past President – Kimberly Shoulders

I am mom to twin boys who are in the 4th grade and wife of 26 years to SFC Frank Shoulders, who is a Military Technician stationed at Fort Jackson.

Prior to becoming a stay at home mom, I worked for Family Connection of SC for 5+ years as a NICU Parent Partner. I continue my work for them in a volunteer position. My family served as the ambassador family for the March of Dimes and I frequently speak with corporations and groups to raise awareness about the MOD.

I am a football enthusiast, (Go Pack Go!), a singer and crafter. Our family loves to travel, go camping and fishing whenever we can.

It’s going to be a great year at East Point Academy and I’m excited to be a part of the PTO.
